Hey hey !

It’s summer, one of the months I have a love/hate relationship with. I love it cause I don’t like being cold. Hate it cause of the humidity. To me though, this is the best time to let your natural hair be free. I love doing wash n go’s. I know that I can walk out the house with moisture-rich hair and not get sick! I wet my hair everyday in the shower in between wash days. It gives my hair the life that it needs. But what is summer without days of humidity.
What exactly is humidity? Simply put, moisture in the air. The liquid bond of a water molecule can be altered when there is enough energy to turn it into vapor. This happens when the weather gets hotter. It then parlays with air molecules. Taking it a step further, there’s this thing called relative humidity. That measures the amount of water vapor saturating the air in a given temperature. We’re not gonna go in depth on that though. Moving on,your hair and humidity tosses water molecules to eachother. So when your hair is dry and the air is humid, some of those water molecules shift over to your hair. It breaks down the hydrogen bonds in your hair and it swells. This makes it curly or frizzy. During the colder months, there is no humidity in the air. This is why your hair dries more quickly. It’s giving off all the water molecules to the air that has none.
There are ways to combat humidity and keep your style as long as possible. I have been recently trying the LOC method. It’s a leave-in, oil, cream routine.  You apply them in that order. It’s important to note that oil is a sealant. It seals in whatever precedes. Your last product helps with styling and helps to form your curls. I found this method to be very helpful during these high humidity days. The oil protects the leave-in from escaping your hair. The cream does the same for the oil. I have been using Lotta Body or Trader Joe’s Leave-in conditioner, grapeseed oil, then a gel. This method is helpful cause it allows your hair to just breath. Daily manipulation can interfere with hair growth. Wetting you hair everyday is not as harsh as styling.
I also want to mention a new method I have been trying. Normally the baggy method is used for a deep conditioning process. However, I have  been using it preserve my curls after my wash n Go’s. I wet me hair everyday. Sometimes I apply a little more cream/gel product if it feels a little dry. I do this in between wash days. I wear a bag/ shower cap then a satin bonnet over it to bed. I wake up and won’t need to wet my hair as it will already be moisturized. My curls look the same as if I just did a wash n go. I love this method!
As for winter, that’s the time to tuck your hair away. In other words, it’s wig season bihhh! Coughs silently. This is the time to pull em out. Doing a wash n go is a no, unless you enjoy being sick. Protective styling is so important. These  styles will protect your hair from the humid-less air. These styles, again, prevent daily manipulation.  You can also practice patience during this time. That is key to longer hair and also my weak area....
I hope this information was helpful. Please comment below and tell me what you think. What are some of your methods? I’d love to hear from you. Blessings.
