Day two

So I’m finally getting to day two. There’s not enough time in the day for Adulting. I don’t even remember filling out a job application for this position. It’s like I walked into a Vector Marketing interview. For those of you who are not familiar, it’s one of the those jobs that lure you in. They propose a high pay rate but don’t tell you what you’re getting yourself into. You’re guaranteed to get the job, you just “gotta work hard for the big bucks.” In life, adulting can bring you great rewards, but you have to put in the hard work and dedication. You also have to do things like pay bills. Unfortunately, I never accepted a position with Vector Marketing so I don’t know if it was how it was portrayed. However, they really made me feel like it was worth going to an interview. That’s the conspiracy of life. Read the small print. Anywho, I wanted to dive deeper into porosity levels. Let’s talk about it.

Low Porosity
According to The Science of Black Hair, this type of hair is generally healthy, albeit it does not absorb water or get rid of excess moisture easily. It’s hard to get it in and it’s hard to get it out. When building a regimen for this porosity level, it’s good to choose light weight products. Heat (steam) can be your best friend since it opens up the cuticle layer of the hair. This allows product to nourish the strand. A cold rinse will close the cuticle back to keep in the nutrients. Just dont apply too much product.  I’m still working on that “dime size” amount.

Medium Porosity
This level of porosity is ideal to have. It’s the median of the two extremes. There’s a steady flow of moisture going in and out of the cuticle. You just have to be careful not to overdue it since it can handle manipulation well.

High Porosity
Of course this is the most porous. Moisture does not hang out in these strands because the cuticle layers do not close. They are all worn out from manipulation. You’ll notice this type of hair wets and dries quickly. It will lose more moisture than absorbed. This type of hair can feel rough and damaged. Steer clear of sulfate-rich shampoos as they can strip the hair, making it more porous.

Finding the porosity level of you hair can give you an idea of how to build a regimen. Keep in mind that this process does not happen overnight. Your hair has to get used to a routine and the right products. If you haven’t already, please refer to my last blog post on how to find your porosity level. Please comment your thoughts below. Stay tuned for day three! Blessings.
