Hey hey !
Im spicing things up with a three day blog series about hair porosity. The first day im gonna tell you what the heck that even is. The second day i’ll go in depth about the different types of porosity levels. On the final fun day, I’m gonna touch base on different products that I have tested for my hair type. All sorts of good stuff. So let’s dive head first!
DAY ONE
So what exactly is porosity eh? Let me elucidate. Porosity is your hair’s ability to absorb moisture. It also determines how chemicals enter the hair cortex. Why is that even important though? Well, your hair can’t exactly flourish if it’s dry. It’s helpful to know how to get and keep moisture in your strands. In my head I feel like i’m on a Bill Nye episode right now. He’s the GOAT. Don’t debate me. Moving on, there are three types of porosity levels. There’s low, medium, and high. Kinky hair can be less porous than its straighter counterparts, but that doesn’t mean anything bad.
So how do you find what type of porosity your hair is? You’re gonna need a piece of freshly washed hair. Don’t go yanking strands out of your head. Simply run your hands through your fro, bouncing on 24’sss,while they say on the radio 🎶. Seriously, we lose up to 100 strands of hair a day. It won’t be hard to get one. Place that strand in a cup of room temperature water. If it sinks, you have high porosity hair. If it floats, you have low porosity hair. If it just hangs out in the middle, you have medium porosity hair. A visual representation of this is shown in the video below.
Finding the porosity level of your hair will help you chose the right products. With the right products, you can build a regimen to help your curls thrive! Let em’ thrive! Please comment with your results. If you have questions or concerns, leave them in the comments section. Blessings
